5-Axis Machining
Precision Machining
5-axis machining provides infinite possibilities as to the part sizes and shapes you can effectively process. The term “5-axis” refers to the number of directions in which the cutting tool can move. On a 5-axis turning centre, the cutting tool moves across the X, Y and Z linear axes as well as rotates on the C and B axes to approach the workpiece from any direction. In other words, you can process five sides of a part in a single setup.
Milling
Milling is the process of cutting away material by feeding a workpiece past a rotating multiple tooth cutter. The cutting action of the many teeth around the milling cutter provides a fast method of machining. The machined surface may be flat, angular, or curved. The surface may also be milled to any combination of shapes. Here at Mollart Cox we can mill various shapes and sizes up to 10 tonnes. We can create all different shapes and are also able to offer tapping for such things as lifting holes.
Over the last 4 years, 5 Axis machining has enabled Mollart Cox to:
- REDUCE SETUP TIME
- INCREASE ACCURACY
- WIDELY EXPAND SHOP CAPABILITY
We have invested in 5 Mazak machines since 2013 and the collection is continually growing.
